Occupations within Healthcare can be filled by lots of different types of people.  This is a quick summary of what jobs there are and who can do them.

Physician
  • What: Primary Care Provider, Care Team Leader
  • Who: People who have passed the USMLE Step-3
  • Education: Medical Doctor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery

Nurse Practitioner
  • What: Primary Care Provider, Care Team Leader
  • Who:  Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Education:  Successful completion of an authorized School of Nursing and appropriate board licensure.
Nurse
  • What: Primary Care Provider
  • Who:  Registered Nurse (Passing NCLEX-RN)
  • Education:  Successful completion of an authorized School of Nursing and NCLEX-RN passing.

Respiratory Therapist
  • What: Primary provider of cardiovascular and pulmonary support, intervention and management.
  • Who: Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist
  • Education: Successful completion of the NBRC-WRE and NBRC-CSE examinations.

ECMO Specialist
Initiates and Manages ECMO support
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Registered Nurse
  • Clinical Perfusionist

Interventional Technologist
Performs various roles involved in interventional imaging procedures.
